Hospitality
People can be reached through the power of love and hospitality and this will work to get people into the church, and continue to hold them. There is no greater power than the power of love demonstrated by hospitality.
- 1 Peter 4:8: And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.
- 1 Peter 4:9: Use hospitality on to another without grudging.
- 1 Peter 4:10: As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.
When:
There must be continual communication with the church secretary to ensure that first time visitors have been contacted by phone and mail. One of the best ways to achieve this would be by the registration cards in the welcome packets every Sunday.
Where:
Hospitality extends beyond the doors of the church. Scripture denoted the importance of the apostles passing the requirements of looking to the care of the people to others that they may give themselves over to fasting and praying. Therefore this person must be willing to do for others what they realize that they would love to have done unto them. Meet at least once a month or by phone with the Senior Pastor on the status of any sick or shut in.
Why:
Of all the positions in he church the hospitality coordinator has to feel compassion for the people needs i.e. belonging, self-worth and outside caring. This person like the pastor must have a passion for the people.
How:
The person works with the Headship; Head Usher and Greeter to get the visitor cards for the day. View the guest cards and insure that the main information has no errors or blanks, before visiting people leave the church. Look for data on children, if this data can not go on the data card get with the administrative assistant to see if the data has been added to the database. Birthdays don't matter to some; yet, they are of most importance to others. As one looks over this you may begin to question why the church focuses on the power or need of hospitality? 1 Peter 4:9 talks about hospitality in this manner: "Use hospitality one towards another" Why? Because as the end draws closer men will become lovers of themselves and haters of God. Hospitality breaks down walls with acts of kindness and love. Therefore, the coordinator must have a dedicated private devotional time with the Lord. The hospitality coordinator in their own personnel walk with God creates an atmosphere that invites members of the congregation into worshiping in love and family ship.
Qualifications:
- Saved, sanctified, and Holy Spirit filled
- Evidence of God working in their life and witness by others
- A calling in that ministry
- Have a desire of self improvement
- Not easily provoked - Teachable - Reachable
- Working on or completed a Lay "Minister Certificate"
- Be submissive to the Pastor
